Wedding Planning During COVID-19
To My 2020 Brides and Grooms,
The season that we’re in is one that no one could have imagined or predicted. My heart goes out to you as some really challenging decisions are being made and dream-wedding plans are being disrupted. I want you to know that I will support you in every way that I possibly can, and I look forward to celebrating with you and photographing your love, be it this year or next, or both!
This blog will address many of the questions that are being asked. I’d also like to encourage you that if your plans are changing due to covid-19, work toward a plan B – don’t cancel entirely! Marriage is a wonderful, beautiful gift that deserves to be celebrated. If you’re unable to have your original celebration this summer, let’s come up with a plan for the future.
My suggested Plan B: “elope” on your original wedding date!! Whether it’s just you two, or a small celebration with 10 people or less… you can still get married! In fact, this is what my husband and I did in 2018 and I highly recommend it. We married in our front yard in the snow, just the two of us and our two best friends. Then we threw a BBQ celebration the following summer with family and friends. Some pros to this scenario:
• You’ll get to wear your wedding attire twice!
• Your ceremony will be incredibly intimate, with more room for sharing of personal vows, emotion, and romantic time as a newly married couple. (fun fact: my husband and I had a morning ceremony so that we could spend our wedding afternoon enjoying a bubble bath together and going for a snow shoe).
• This allows for more time for wedding portraits! We’ll create dreamy photos of you as a newly married couple without feeling the time crunch to rush back for a cocktail hour.
• You can get married someplace unique! We can explore and you can exchange vows just about anywhere: on the top of a mountain, beside a river, on a beach, in the woods… the possibilities are endless and would make for some magical photographs and unforgettable memories.
Here’s us on our actual wedding day, 2/17/18 and again on our celebration day of 7/7/18!
How in the world would eloping work?
We can use the retainer you’ve already paid as a credit toward an elopement session. We’ll cancel your current wedding contract and sign a new one for your new celebration date and treat the elopement like it’s own mini-event. Send me a note to chat about details and elopement photography pricing.
How do I postpone my 2020 date to 2021?
Please, please reach out to me ASAP to talk through 2021 availability. I absolutely still want to be your photographer, so we’ll need to make sure your new date is one that I still have open. We will need to cancel your current contract and sign a new digital contract to get your 2021 date officially locked in.
Is it going to cost us extra to postpone?
No. Your already paid retainer will be credited toward your new date and we aren’t charging any rescheduling fees. This is an already crappy time and we’re doing our best to make the process as smooth as possible for you. <3
How will future payments work if we postpone?
50% of the total remaining balance will be due on your original 2020 date, and the remaining 50% will be due 14 days prior to the new date.
Can you hold a 2021 date for us while we decide whether or not to postpone?
To be fair to everyone, I cannot “hold” any 2021 dates. Dates are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. I am currently in the process of rescheduling more than half of my 2020 clients, as well as booking new 2021 clients, so dates are going quickly and cannot be reserved without a signed contract. I recommend making a postponement decision as soon as possible to ensure we’re still available on your new date.
Which 2021 dates do you still have open?
As of 5/29/20, below are the dates that I am already under contract (unavailable). Below that are a handful of dates that will likely be under contract soon. All other Friday, Saturday, Sunday dates in 2021 are open at this point. Please send me an email if you’re considering a reschedule to confirm availability.
Below are dates that are pending, likely to be under contract soon:
What if we choose a 2021 date that you are unavailable?
I really hope this doesn’t happen and that we’re able to communicate and choose a new date that works for us both! If however you do choose a date which I am already booked, the non-refundable retainer will not be returned. Any monies paid beyond the retainer fee will be returned in full.
What if we decide to cancel altogether?
I also really hope it doesn’t come down to this option! Weddings are such special, tremendous occasions that deserve celebration. The cancellation agreement is laid out in your signed contract. Please contact me with any questions.
Friends, you are in my thoughts and I’m sending all my love, prayers, and positive vibes your way. Let me know if there’s any way I can help in your planning or re-planning process. Call/text/email and we can schedule a time for a brainstorm session and share a glass of wine or cup of coffee via Zoom!
